Outerwear for kids is tricky! You want to find something warm, comfortable and durable. I have tried everything from the super inexpensive Old Navy coats, to splurging on a Patagonia. And truthfully, the Patagonia coats are worth every single penny. The Little House has the CUTEST selection of Patagonia; and are one of the only retailer here in KC that actually carry the line.
The last few years I have gotten each of my kids the “Down Sweater” jacket. They are around $100-$125, but they are super lightweight and the warmest coat around. I love that they aren’t so bulky, especially when you are trying to strap your child in a car seat! If you size up a bit, you can get two seasons out of them too!
Their color selection this season is fantastic!!! Loving this aqua with Purple and Hot Pink trim

I know for a lot of moms it is hard to get their boys out of basketball shorts and tee shirts. It is not easy to break them of that habit! But, they do have events and things where those types of clothes just aren’t appropriate. The options for boys “dress clothes” used to be very slim. But, finally designers are coming around; realizing that we don’t always want to put our sons in a sweater vest and a plaid shirt.
With the holidays in mind, I started scoping out some pieces he could wear this fall and winter. I instantly fell in love with this shirt and sportcoat by Appaman from The Little House. It is totally an outfit my husband would wear!!!
The jacket is extremely well made, and not too stiff. And the details are so cute; like the lining and the red trim. The shirt is super soft and comfortable (or so my son says…)
He felt so sharp, he started to bust a move…proof that dress clothes don’t have to be uncomfortable!… Continue Reading
Fitness is just as much a part of our children’s life as it is ours. Teaching them healthy habits early can only help them as they grow older! My little ones have been doing “kids yoga” for the past two years, and they absolutely love it. We host classes at Health House and many of the parents tell us how much the children love the class and the instructor Mimi Z. It’s amazing how she can tame a group of ten 4 year olds and have them all totally silent at the end, lying on their backs with a lavender pillow on their eyes, in complete relaxation!
We absolutely LOVE Mimi Z’s classes. So, we were so completely thrilled when we found out she was launching her own line of kids Yoga gear! Let me introduce JoBea Kids!
We absolutely love our JoBea pants…Vivi wants to wear them constantly!… Continue Reading
I don’t know a little girl that doesn’t LOVE a “twirly” dress. The more twirl factor the better! Unfortunately most of my daughters favorite dresses aren’t great for everyday; they are a special occasion dress that would not be practical for school or play.
Some childrenswear designers got very smart and have made fun, flouncy, twirling dresses that aren’t just for special events! They have combined a comfortable cotton top with a tulle skirt; the perfect combo of cute, comfort and wearability
We found the 3 cutest styles at The Little House in Fairway. This one by Toobydoo was our favorite! The tulle is super soft, and the top is a very comfortable striped knit. I love that she can wear this now while it is still warm, but we can layer with leggings and a denim jacket into fall.
This navy and grey version also by Toobydoo was just as adorable.… Continue Reading
My daughter is SO picky about what she wears…I can’t tell you how many times she has torn off a great outfit because she thinks it is uncomfortable! But, I think we found a great balance of fashion and comfort with locally made clothes by Redeux Kidz.
I was excited to come across this line, made by Kansas City mom Sarah Teresinski. She searches high and low for the softest vintage fabrics that she remakes into adorable kids clothing. Every piece that my daughter has worn so far has gotten a huge thumbs up; which is not easy!
These bloomers are so cute and lightweight; great for summer…
And she REALLY loved this romper which is just a tad big on her now, but it was too cute not to take on our vacation. She kept saying she was a “flower girl” which I thought was pretty fun. The romper came with the flower which can be worn in the hair or pinned on the front…
The great thing is, Sarah can take a piece of say your mother’s or grandmother’s vintage clothing and make it into something for your child.… Continue Reading
