Shopping Scout: Athleisure

Posted on February 4th, by Melanie

One thing I think Athleta does very well is Athleisure. These are the clothes that you aren’t working out in. But they are your comfortable, errand running, traveling in, taking your kids to the park clothes.

They have some new Spring pieces that I am loving. I am obsessed with the pale leather jacket paired over a v neck tee with leggings and new balance tennies. I also love their non workout pants; specifically the jogger and their new cargo pant. They just came out with a blazer called the “urban commute blazer” which would be amazing for travel. I would also throw this on over jeans and a tee for client meetings. It’s a great outfit completer!

You can shop these pieces and a few of my other favorites here:

Scout Fit: Being healthy isn’t easy

Posted on February 2nd, by Melanie

I think we would all agree that living a healthy, balanced lifestyle is not easy. There are so many factors that play into our everyday life which can affect what we eat and our fitness plans. Kids and work, genetics, stress, mental health, and then there are our personal relationships that can really throw things for a loop. There are things we can’t control and there are things we can. And to me it is not about being “skinny”; that’s an unhealthy goal. It’s about being healthy, happy and feeling good about myself from the outside in.

Some of you know me personally and some of you don’t; I wanted to share my “health journey” so to speak. We may own a gym now, and live a pretty clean lifestyle. But it wasn’t always that way!  It has been a long road of ups and downs with my weight, bad choices, and health issues to finally get to this place of feeling healthy, confident, and loving the skin I am in.… Continue Reading

Scout Fit: Easy + Healthy Recipes

Posted on January 25th, by Melanie

I am getting a hang of this cooking thing. I think the biggest part is planning. I now plan my meals out on Sunday; so I can get everything I need for the week. If I am scrambling to pull stuff together last minute, that is when I end up failing in the kitchen.

Last week I did an AMAZING Maple Soy Glazed salmon recipe from Skinnytaste. It was only 4 ingredients, and it was such a hit! I paired it with Brussel Sprouts (I do mine a little different than how she makes them), but the combo was perfect. It reminds me of the flavors of the miso cod from Nobu. If you don’t like Salmon; this may be a game changer for you!

Tonight I made the Skinnytaste Chicken and Dumpling recipe from her 2nd cookbook. This was sent to me and referred to me by a friend (thanks Sarah!).… Continue Reading

Scout Fit: Skinnytaste Recipes

Posted on January 17th, by Melanie

So, I have been sticking to my goal of doing some new recipes. I like websites with recipes (as opposed to a cookbook) because they are easy to reference (on phone, ipad, etc). The Skinnytaste cookbooks came highly recommended, so we have been trying some of her recipes via her site.

Last week I made the Salisbury Steak Meatballs + Cauliflower Mash and it was amazing. Even my pickiest eater ate the meatballs. It didn’t feel overly healthy, but it is high in protein, low in sugar and calories. The cauliflower mash is also great; I will be making both of these again! I found there to be a lot of ingredients and prep for the meatballs so either allow yourself some time or do the chopping/prep in the afternoon and refrigerate. I think start to finish it was about 2 hours, but that was with a handful of interruptions!… Continue Reading

Scout Fit: Food + Diet

Posted on January 6th, by Melanie

I have had a few people ask what my diet consists of. That’s a big question, but I will try to answer as best I can.

When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight, what you eat plays a HUGE part. So, even if you are working out a lot, you have to eat clean if you want to look lean, and see physical definition (and or transformation). You can’t workout 6 days a week and still just eat whatever you want. It just doesn’t work that way. You need to eat constantly…small snacks/meals throughout the day but make sure those meals are healthy. I don’t count calories. I just eat when I am hungry, and when I eat it’s usually pretty smart choices. I have talked about this before; but we do splurge on the weekends. It’s a way to maintain balance so that you aren’t depriving yourself of what you love.… Continue Reading
