Let’s get real: Clean eating…the struggle is real!

Posted on August 20th, by Melanie

Am I the only person who gains weight during the summer months??? I feel like everyone I talk to says they lose weight. They feel more fit because they are less likely to eat bad foods when it’s hot, and they are more active either working in their yards or running outside. I go downhill from May-August. I don’t weigh myself, but I can just tell I am not as trim as I am during the winter.

Since going Gluten and Dairy free (which, by the way has cured me of chronic migraines and stomach issues…) last year I feel like this summer was the best I have been in years. Our diet is pretty clean, but that doesn’t mean I am perfect!

In the Summer I indulge…I am a sucker for the occasional scoop of ice cream, grilling out burgers, more drinking than normal (which leads to late night bad food choices), and less working out (the kids home during the summer makes it really hard to workout…even when you own a gym).… Continue Reading

Scout Fit: Nike Free Flyknit

Posted on August 10th, by Melanie

When it comes to workout apparel, I am obsessed with finding the perfect pair of tennis shoes. It takes a long time to find the right fit and color combo to somewhat coordinate with your workout wear.

Nike shoes are hand down my favorites, I have been wearing them for years. I love their Internationalist style for everyday, but I am pretty excited about my new Nike Free Flyknit 4.0, thanks to Kicks USA . They are so lightweight and comfortable, it feels like you aren’t wearing anything. Kind of like a sock with a cushiony sole. And you don’t have to wear socks with them!

My new flyknits also happen to go great with our new branded tees and tanks we just got in at at our rowing studio, Health House.  My best friend Jillian did our new designs, and we are obsessed! Love how she included front and back details, and the incorporation of our HH logo and the oars.… Continue Reading

Our Weekend

Posted on July 13th, by Melanie

This weekend went by way to fast; I am so not ready for it to be over! Although I am looking forward to tomorrow; the one day that both my kids will be in camp! I am finally going to have one adults only pool day to myself. I can’t wait!

This entire week was busy and fun, and that sort of flowed into the weekend. My mother in law took J and I to see Cinderella at Starlight mid-week, it rained the entire time, but we tried to make the most of it!

My husband was on daughter duty, so he took her to dinner. He asked her to pick her favorite place and she said North. Girls got good taste! He sent me this pic during dinner; if you can’t tell from her smile they had the best “date” night.

Studio Style: Team Health House

Posted on June 12th, by Melanie

Our fitness studio, Health House recently did a photo shoot with Alyson Cheney who specializes in fitness photos. Alyson was able to deliver the exact vision of what we had in mind. I had a blast styling the girls for the shoot. We wanted an edgier look, but without them having to wear just head to toe black…

We are truly lucky to have such a beautiful team of female instructors…on the inside and out! They are smart, funny, and STRONG women who will whip you into the best shape of your life 🙂 Love you girls!

Product Love: S’Well Bottles

Posted on May 20th, by Melanie

I kept seeing S’well bottles around, and hearing about how great they were. So, we decided to order them for our fitness studio. After months of being back ordered (high demand apparently 🙂 We were able to get them in stock.

Now I know what all the hype is about! These bottles really are amazing. They have done a great job making them functional and pretty to look at. The bottle that I have (shown above) is the 17 oz, from the textile collection called Santorini.

They are made of the highest grade stainless steel, and are completely insulated. They fit perfectly into a cup holder; which I found most bulky water bottles don’t! They also have a big enough opening to fit ice cubes in. They come in three sizes, 9 oz, 17 oz and 25 oz. The 17 oz is perfect to carry with you in your bag.

I put it to the test, filling up my bottle at 9AM with water and ice.… Continue Reading
