One of the biggest things that can kill your diet and fitness plan are your alcoholic beverages. You may work your ass off during your workouts, but if you are coming home and having a couple of beers a night you just ruined everything you did at the gym that day! A lot of our favorite drinks are packed with sugar, carbs and empty calories.
Here are my cliff’s notes for fitness friendly drinks…
Wine is not that bad for you…in moderation. If you check the ABV (Alcohol by Volume Percentage) you can gauge the calories you will be getting. lower ABV means lower calories. If the ABV is 9-12, a 6 oz pour will be around 110-140 calories. The lower ABV’s in white are in the dryer wines like pinot grigio. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay’s are higher in alcohol, which in turn has a higher calorie count.
In general, most white wines are lower in Alcohol and calories than Reds.… Continue Reading
So you may have seen on my insta stories me discussing giving up sugar for lent. By sugar I mean, desserts and sweets; they are by far my biggest weak spot. Going 40 days without any desserts was probably one of the hardest things I have done (when it comes to giving up something). Maybe even harder than alcohol!
I just keep reading how bad Sugar is. You can read some of the effects HERE. It is so addictive they compare it to cocaine! I mean, how disturbing is this picture?! Funny, not funny…but so true! Sometimes I feel like when I start eating sugary foods I don’t want to stop.
I wanted to give up sugar for 2 things: 1. to test my willpower and 2. to see if there were any changes in my body. Here is what happened.
I was super cranky the first few weeks, it was almost like I was having withdrawals.… Continue Reading
I think most of us hit a lull around 2-3PM. It is the time between lunch and dinner where you get a little hungry and a little tired. I find myself always needing a pick me up around this time. I used to make not so great choices around this time of day. Before I cleaned up my diet, it would be a latte and a scone or muffin of some sort. The sugar and carbs and caffeine was a recipe for disaster. Instead of picking me up, I felt even more tired! Caffeine mid-day is not the answer! And if you are the one picking up at Diet Coke at this time, I beg you to stop. You can read more about the effects of this drink HERE. I am not super anti anything, but everything I read about Diet Soda is awful and it’s an easy thing to cut out of your diet!… Continue Reading
Ok, so I have been seriously slacking in the kitchen. I lost my mojo, and I need to get inspired again. BUT, I did make a few recipes recently that I loved.
My friend recommended the Pioneer Woman’s chili recipe and it is TO DIE FOR. Probably the best chili recipe I have made, ever. You can find it HERE.
recipe note * I did not use the “Masa Harina” she asks for in the recipe. But, my friend told me to add a TBSP of brown sugar and dijon mustard to the meat while browning. It was incredibly delicious, and my family at the whole pot in one night!
I found myself buying energy bites and protein balls all over town and spending way too much money on them. When I saw Wellness for the Win’s n0 bake energy bite recipe, I knew I had to try them! We have been through a batch a week, and the whole family eats them.… Continue Reading
I feel like Chicken is a weekly staple in our household. It is typically what I make on Monday’s because my husband is at the studio that night and it’s typically an easy recipe. I tried two new chicken recipes in the last two weeks and my kids gobbled it up!
Wellness for the Win is actually a Kansas City blogger that my husband told me about. I was scrolling through her site today and she has a ton of good recipes. I am adding her site to search on a weekly basis. Tonight I did her baked honey garlic chicken nuggets. They have an asian feel to them, and they were delicious. We did GF breadcrumbs which weren’t as great as normal breadcrumbs, but everyone still ate them so I consider that a win.
I paired it with some rice and stir fry veggies on the side. I did frozen veggies which I regret; I will definitely do fresh next time.… Continue Reading
