Beauty: Spring Break Prep

Posted on March 3rd, by Melanie

Prepping for a trip is a lot of work! Not only do you have to pack, but sometimes you have to fit in some essential beauty treatments before you leave. I have 3 must-do services before I go away. It seems like a lot, but I always feel so much better when I do it!

I have started to do monthly facials which I feel have helped tremendously with my skin. I go to Nikki at Bare MedSpa  in Park Place. I have very sensitive skin, and have had some bad experiences in the past with products and facials. She is the first aesthetician who really took the time to understand my skin. She has great knowledge of products and what works for different skin types.

To get to understand my skin, she has done a different facial each month, but I recently did the hydra facial before my Los Angeles trip.  … Continue Reading

Ruffles + Stripes

Posted on March 1st, by Melanie

This blouse has two of my favorite elements. I love the masculine pinstripe mixed with a super feminine exaggerated ruffle. I have seen many versions of this same top; but this one from Shop Scoobie is extremely affordable and very well made. At $75; it is the perfect statement top on a budget!

There are SO many good things. I haven’t quite decided what to pull the trigger on. I am loving these Dolce Vita Sandals, an easy sundress (under $100) perfect for Spring Break, and this Loeffler Randall tote which would carry me through Spring and Summer.

I scoured their most recent arrivals, and here are my favorites…

Style Scout Travels: Minneapolis

Posted on February 28th, by Melanie

I am sure you saw from social media that I was in Minneapolis last week. I was there meeting with the team at Evereve, which is based in Edina, MN. I will share with you all the details of my collaboration with this beloved brand in the next few weeks. Until then, here are a few snippets of my trip!

I grew up in Minnesota, but never spent much time in the city. I moved away right after I graduated and my parents moved soon after. So, I never got to enjoy Minneapolis at an age where I would truly appreciate it. I was so excited to have this opportunity to explore Minneapolis, and check out all the great new places I keep reading about.

We stayed at the brand new Hewing Hotel which is downtown Minneapolis. It’s one of the coolest, well thought out hotels I have stayed at.… Continue Reading

Fashion: “Greenery and Ruffles”

Posted on February 21st, by Melanie

Pantone declared “greenery” the color of 2017, and I couldn’t be more happy about it. I love green. Remember my green master bedroom??? Yes, that’s how much I love the color! Especially a really good kelly green.

This fun top by Endless Rose from Halls has everything you could want in a spring top; the must have color of the season, pleats and subtle ruffles and of course the cold shoulder. At only $75, this top is a no brainer!

Scout Fit: Two Healthy Chicken Recipes your kids will love!

Posted on February 21st, by Melanie

I feel like Chicken is a weekly staple in our household. It is typically what I make on Monday’s because my husband is at the studio that night and it’s typically an easy recipe. I tried two new chicken recipes in the last two weeks and my kids gobbled it up!

Wellness for the Win is actually a Kansas City blogger that my husband told me about. I was scrolling through her site today and she has a ton of good recipes. I am adding her site to search on a weekly basis. Tonight I did her baked honey garlic chicken nuggets. They have an asian feel to them, and they were delicious. We did GF breadcrumbs which weren’t as great as normal breadcrumbs, but everyone still ate them so I consider that a win.

I paired it with some rice and stir fry veggies on the side. I did frozen veggies which I regret; I will definitely do fresh next time.… Continue Reading

Scout Style: Cropped Flares

Posted on February 15th, by Melanie

Cropped Flares are here to stay; at least for this season! I got this high waisted pair at J.Crew at the end of winter. I wasn’t sure how I felt at first, but I am really loving it. I think it’s nice to see a new denim style and a way to update our denim wardrobe.

I prefer a style that hits right above the ankle with a slight flare. I think it’s great for Spring with a flat sandal or dressed up with a strappier heel.

For a transitional look I paired it with my favorite Mer-Sea Travel Wrap! Love their new style that has pockets! This also makes a GREAT gift if you are looking for Mother’s Day or graduation ideas.

Scout Travels: Malibu/Palisades/Santa Monica

Posted on February 15th, by Melanie

It is back to reality after an amazing weekend with my childhood and High School friends in California. One of the girls lives out there, and at our 20 year reunion we talked about taking a trip to visit her. What started as a text string with 4 of us at the end of December, ended up in a trip planned for all of us to go to California in early February to celebrate all of us turning 40. I love when things like that sort of fall in place at the last minute.

We all grew up in Apple Valley, Minnesota. The 5 of us were not all super close in high school, but I have a different connection with each of them. Over the past 10 years; with social media and 2 reunions we had all re-connected. It is fun knowing some of these girls since I was 6, and seeing everyone grow up, develop their careers, get married and have kids.… Continue Reading
