In the next few months, this blog is getting a makeover. I am turning 40 in 2017 and so I want this blog to be a reflection of that.  I am “old” when it comes to fashion bloggers. But, I feel like there is a place in this blog world for women who are not just 25 with endless amounts of time to look good, and endless amounts of money to spend on clothes. We all know that when you become a mom, and as you age, your priorities change. With that being said, I feel like 40 is a pivotal year. My kids are older, and I have more time for me. I feel like I spent the last decade worrying about everyone else, just trying to keep my shit together without losing it.

I feel a sense of peace with this time in my life. My relationships are stronger, I am more confident, I feel better, I know more about myself and what I want.… Continue Reading

Posted on January 10th, by Melanie

I know everyone is over winter already. It’s only January and I feel like this winter has dragged on forever! With a few trips on the horizon, I have already been shopping some early spring pieces. I swear, I always find the best pieces in January or February; you have to snag up the good stuff before it is gone! Loving this pink and red one piece, a cute dress that can double as a cover-up, cute flip flops and the Clare V. Straw Bag; perfect for travel and all summer long!

Scout Fit: Food + Diet

Posted on January 6th, by Melanie

I have had a few people ask what my diet consists of. That’s a big question, but I will try to answer as best I can.

When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight, what you eat plays a HUGE part. So, even if you are working out a lot, you have to eat clean if you want to look lean, and see physical definition (and or transformation). You can’t workout 6 days a week and still just eat whatever you want. It just doesn’t work that way. You need to eat constantly…small snacks/meals throughout the day but make sure those meals are healthy. I don’t count calories. I just eat when I am hungry, and when I eat it’s usually pretty smart choices. I have talked about this before; but we do splurge on the weekends. It’s a way to maintain balance so that you aren’t depriving yourself of what you love.… Continue Reading

2017 GOALS

Posted on January 3rd, by Melanie

New Year; fresh start…new goals. I shared a little bit on Instagram, but last year was one of extreme highs and lows.

I went through some crazy health issues in 2016. Nothing catastrophic, or terribly serious but enough to make me feel kind of crappy all year long. I was feeling depressed, I dealt with chronic neck pain, dizziness and bad headaches. In October, I had a bout of ileocecal colitis, which was extremely painful, and it has forced me to have to completely change my diet.

When we moved out of our apartment in November, the neck pain, dizziness and headaches went away. Around this same time, I had completely changed my diet based on what happened with my ileocecal valve. My friend does a lot of research on homeopathic medicine and natural ways of healing your body. When she sent me this article, I was blown away. I was experiencing so many of these symptoms.… Continue Reading

Our Christmas + New Year

Posted on January 2nd, by Melanie

Our flight from NYC landed at 4:00 Christmas eve! We raced home, changed quickly and head to dinner with my family and my in-laws. We went to Stockhill for dinner, and it was great. I think at that point I was so tired, and full from all the eating and drinking that I just kind of wanted to sleep…but we powered through the night for the kids. I still had gifts to wrap and Santa gifts to setup! Again, thankful for my parents and brother for helping out!

Scout Travels: NYC

Posted on January 2nd, by Melanie

Happy New Year everyone! I feel so behind on posting; it’s been a whirlwind holiday break! It’s impossible to get anything done when you have guests in town for a week…and with the holidays. So, I figured I will start back before Christmas and share some highlights of our trip to New York.

The trip was a surprise from my husband. My brother and Mom got into town early the week of Christmas and obviously they were in on the secret. We went to dinner on Wednesday night and he orders a bottle of champagne, makes a toast and tells me to pack a bag because we are leaving at 6AM for 2 days in NYC! It is hard to get anything past me; and so for him to pull of this sort of surprise was pretty amazing. I had not been to NY in 8 years; so I was very excited to get back and experience it at Christmas time.… Continue Reading

Currently Obsessed: Kendra Scott Fine Jewelry

Posted on December 22nd, by Melanie

Kendra Scott’s fine jewelry launched this month, and I could not be more excited. I have been a Kendra fan for many years, and I love seeing how her line has evolved. The new 14K Gold and Pave diamond”iconic collection” is perfect.

I love the understated elegance of these pieces. This is the kind of jewelry you can wear everyday without feeling like they are too dressy. They all come in a choice of rose, yellow or white gold; the rose gold is a current fave! The prices for fine jewelry is also reasonable, with everything being under $1500.

I love the classic Elisa Pendant which is great for everyday, and can be layered with longer necklaces

Scout Style: Not Just for Christmas Eve

Posted on December 20th, by Melanie

It is fun shopping for holiday outfits, but sometimes those outfits only get worn once. When you go too “sparkly” those pieces are just not as versatile.

For Christmas Eve I wanted an outfit I could wear again. I found this blouse by 1 State and this feminine Skirt by Milly at Hall’s. I love black and white; it’s always in style and it’s easy to accessorize. I kept it pretty simple with black opaque tights, black D’orsay suede pumps and for a touch of sparkle to dress the outfit up I added these earrings by Kendra Scott. The skirt was on sale, so the whole outfit was under $250! Hall’s is having a huge sale right now, it’s definitely a great time to shop and stock up on high quality pieces for Fall/Winter.
