We had a low key weekend, mixed with basketball, kids birthday parties and a dinner date with friends.
It was so gloomy and kind of rainy all weekend; we tried to go bowling with the kids Sunday but the place was packed so we ended up going to Tapcade; a restaurant/bar/arcade (mostly geared towards adults) but also a great place for the kids. My son had gone there for a birthday and loved it, so we were excited to try it out.
You pay $5 to play unlimited, old school arcade games. They have a huge beer selection, and excellent bar food. We had the John Wayne tacos and they were amazing. They say kids 6 and over only to play the games, because they don’t allow kids standing on chairs (keep that in mind if you have younger kids) V could just about see over the controls; so she got a few good games of pac-man in.… Continue Reading

So, I have been sticking to my goal of doing some new recipes. I like websites with recipes (as opposed to a cookbook) because they are easy to reference (on phone, ipad, etc). The Skinnytaste cookbooks came highly recommended, so we have been trying some of her recipes via her site.
Last week I made the Salisbury Steak Meatballs + Cauliflower Mash and it was amazing. Even my pickiest eater ate the meatballs. It didn’t feel overly healthy, but it is high in protein, low in sugar and calories. The cauliflower mash is also great; I will be making both of these again! I found there to be a lot of ingredients and prep for the meatballs so either allow yourself some time or do the chopping/prep in the afternoon and refrigerate. This has been the longest weekend ever; and it is still not over. I completely forgot about MLK day tomorrow. Hurray. No school again?!!!! (help me God). I feel like my kids haven’t had a full week of school since November. In Kansas City there was threats of a crazy ice storm that never happened. So we hunkered down Friday night and Saturday. I wasn’t feeling that hot either, so it was good to just stay in and be lazy.
Saturday I spent all day cleaning, organizing, and purging. I have a big garage sale in the Spring, so I am getting ready for that as well. It’s always nice to de clutter before a new season. I will be selling some stuff on my instagram: @kcstylescoutcloset so stay tuned for that!

In the next few months, this blog is getting a makeover. I am turning 40 in 2017 and so I want this blog to be a reflection of that. I am “old” when it comes to fashion bloggers. But, I feel like there is a place in this blog world for women who are not just 25 with endless amounts of time to look good, and endless amounts of money to spend on clothes. We all know that when you become a mom, and as you age, your priorities change. With that being said, I feel like 40 is a pivotal year. My kids are older, and I have more time for me. I feel like I spent the last decade worrying about everyone else, just trying to keep my shit together without losing it.
I feel a sense of peace with this time in my life. My relationships are stronger, I am more confident, I feel better, I know more about myself and what I want.… Continue Reading
I know everyone is over winter already. It’s only January and I feel like this winter has dragged on forever! With a few trips on the horizon, I have already been shopping some early spring pieces. I swear, I always find the best pieces in January or February; you have to snag up the good stuff before it is gone! I have had a few people ask what my diet consists of. That’s a big question, but I will try to answer as best I can.
When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight, what you eat plays a HUGE part. So, even if you are working out a lot, you have to eat clean if you want to look lean, and see physical definition (and or transformation). You can’t workout 6 days a week and still just eat whatever you want. It just doesn’t work that way. You need to eat constantly…small snacks/meals throughout the day but make sure those meals are healthy. I don’t count calories. I just eat when I am hungry, and when I eat it’s usually pretty smart choices. I have talked about this before; but we do splurge on the weekends. New Year; fresh start…new goals. I shared a little bit on Instagram, but last year was one of extreme highs and lows.
I went through some crazy health issues in 2016. Nothing catastrophic, or terribly serious but enough to make me feel kind of crappy all year long. I was feeling depressed, I dealt with chronic neck pain, dizziness and bad headaches. In October, I had a bout of ileocecal colitis, which was extremely painful, and it has forced me to have to completely change my diet.
When we moved out of our apartment in November, the neck pain, dizziness and headaches went away. Around this same time, I had completely changed my diet based on what happened with my ileocecal valve. My friend does a lot of research on homeopathic medicine and natural ways of healing your body.
