Gift Guide: Favorite Things Party!

Posted on December 6th, by Melanie

I am sorry for the late start on my gift guides…the new puppy is really putting a wrench into my work schedule! It’s impossible to get anything done during the day, so I am playing catchup at night!

My first guide is a request from a reader! If you are like me, you have been invited to a Favorite Things Party. I know these parties stump people; especially when their is a price point involved. I have been to ones where the gifts are $10 each on up to $25-$30 each. I have a nice little round up here of some of my favorite small gifts, all under $45. Great for girlfriends, favorite things party or stocking stuffers

gifts under $50

Coconut Milke Mango Hand lotion: It smells amazing; and it’s the perfect size to keep in your car or purse $20

Tocca Cleopatra Candle: To me, nothing tops this candle scent..it has been a long time favorite of mine!… Continue Reading

The Belt

Posted on December 2nd, by Melanie

Belts are a highly underrated accessory. I have been wearing belts for the past 20 years at least; they are an essential accessory!

I think belts are making a huge comeback for a few reasons. First, we are no longer are we wearing our jeans super low. The higher rise is back, and people are tucking more. Also, things are super flowy these days. Belts are a nice way to give some waist definition to all those boho tops we are seeing.

I saved up this season for the Gucci belt with double G buckle. It was expensive; but it has been worth every penny. I can’t tell you how many times I have worn it already. It gives an add of polish to a simple outfit like jeans and a tee shirt. I love it so much that I am saving up for a lighter tan color for Spring. ( I am wearing size 75 for reference, I am a size 26 denim)

Other essentials in your belt wardrobe would be a skinny belt that you can wear with dressier pants, a belt that is at least 1-1.5 inches for jeans or casual pants, a leopard belt is another great novelty belt (and they aren’t that expensive), and something you can throw on with dresses; I am currently loving the baby Bi-Bri by B-Low the belt (as seen above) You can shop my current faves here:

Our Weekend

Posted on November 29th, by Melanie

I hope everyone had a fantastic thanksgiving!

We celebrated the holiday in our new home, which was really nice. We had a small gathering, and it was perfect. Everyone chipped in on the cooking, we had an early dinner and then a siblings game of Trivial Pursuit, which is always a good time!

gosh, this pic is funny…we treat this dog like a baby! look at him sleeping 🙂

took some impromptu photos of the kids and my nieces with the dog

this stinker was in rare form…img_0066

a boy and his dog; nothing sweeter!

we finally got everything hung on the walls; trying to get a little done each week! It’s not easy now with the holidays but I am happy with how it is all coming together.

I just found out the velvet fabric for our living room can’t be here for another 6-8 weeks! ughhhhh…oh well, I guess it is better late than never! … Continue Reading

Scout Style: Cozy up

Posted on November 23rd, by Melanie

Hurray for sweater weather! And this seasons sweaters are SO good. I love the return of the poncho, the longer cardigan and especially the super cozy, oversized styles.

Hall’s is killing it with well priced, on trend pieces this season. It was hard to narrow down my favorites! But these are a few styles that I found to be really cute, and versatile and all under $100!

I loved this one by Mink Pink; first off black and white is always easy. It is super soft, and I love the tassel trim at the bottom. This is a great piece to throw on over any tee or tank. To give this cardigan a dressier look I paired it back to some distressed denim (paige verdugo; also from Hall’s), and popped it with gold accessories.

Scout Beauty

Posted on November 18th, by Melanie

I haven’t done a favorite product post in a while! It is long overdue! Here are some great items as we head into winter…

La Bruket Toner: My husband picked this up for me at George for Mother’s Day and it is one of my favorite products. I spray it on in the morning right after I wash my face. It has extract from chamomile and witch hazel which completes the deep cleaning process, while balancing your skin in preparation for nourishing and moisturizing treatments. This toner can also be used as a refreshing supplement after sun exposure, airplane travel, or as a cleaning and easing after shave. Extracts of chamomile helps to stimulate and smooth skin, while the bergamot provides antiseptic and healing qualities. Witch hazel is astringent and antiseptic. It is an all natural product which is a plus!

R + Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo: thank you to my friend Jayme for turning me on to this product!… Continue Reading

Scout Style: The Fall Dress

Posted on November 16th, by Melanie

Buying dresses aren’t as easy as they used to be! I find them to be too dressy, or too casual, or just not comfortable. This splendid dress is amazing. It is so comfortable, it feels like you are wearing flannel pajamas. It’s super soft with a little bit of stretch in it. It is fitted, and a little shorter than I would normally wear but you could layer it with tights or leggings to make it more modest. I also paired it back to a flat pair of boots so keep the look more casual. You could layer with a denim or suede jacket to pull the look together.

This dress would be perfect for Thanksgiving, or just a night out. If you have any fall travel plans, it packs really small!

Life Lately…new house, new dog, new job.

Posted on November 15th, by Melanie

After a horrendous October, I was ready for some good things to happen. As luck should have it, this month we got a house, a new puppy and I have taken on the role as Editor of Simply KC Magazine. I guess the saying “good things come in 3’s” does ring true!

We brought home Alfie two weeks ago, and we are just couldn’t imagine life without him. We have been without a pet for 3 years, so we were very excited to get this pup. He is the SWEETEST little thing. He is a french bulldog, that we got from a breeder in Paola, KS called Budacious Bulldogs. They are wonderful, if you are looking for a Frenchie. We have multiple friends that have gotten their dog from there. When they sent pics of his litter, we knew we wanted the one with the patch over one eye 🙂 It was love at first sight.… Continue Reading
